Critical Language Scholarships Info Session – Arlington

April 8, 2015 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Learn more about the Critical Languages Scholarship (CLS) program with Mason’s Director of Graduate Fellowships, Dr. Kay Agoston.

CLS is a program of the U.S. Department of State offering opportunities for U.S. citizen students at all levels to participate in fully funded summer programs for Critical Languages.  Programs are offered in Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.  Some languages have pre-requisites; for others, beginners will be accepted.  For more information, please visit the program web site:

This session is open to all students interested in learning more about CLS, including both graduate and undergraduate students in all fields of study.  Please note that this program is open only to U.S. Citizens.

The CLS competition opens each fall with a mid-November deadline.  The next opportunity to apply will be fall 2015 for awards in summer 2016.  This competition requires considerable advance planning (especially over the summer), and students considering applying next fall (or at any point in the future) are strongly encouraged to attend the session NOW to learn how to position themselves competitively next fall.

Please note that this session will be followed immediately by an information session for the Boren Fellowships program – which also offers opportunities to engage in critical language study overseas.
