Dissertation Completion Grants Available for Spring 2015

The Office of the Provost is offering Dissertation Completion Grants for Mason doctoral students planning to graduate in spring or summer of 2015!  To be considered you must APPLY BY NOVEMBER 7, 2014.

Here’s the Deal

Dissertation Completion Grants are awarded to doctoral student in their final semester of their dissertation. The Grant enables a student to focus full time on research and writing, improving quality of the work and shortening the time to complete the degree.

Dissertation Completion Grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Applicants must submit materials to the Office of the Provost by Friday, November 7, 2014 (see Application Procedure below). Recipients will be notified by Friday, November 14, 2014.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are full-time doctoral student.
  • You have completed course requirements, passed all required written and oral exams, and advanced to candidacy.
  • You communicate regularly with your dissertation chair.
  • You are able to complete your dissertation by the summer 2015 dissertation submission deadline.

Award

  • Grant award:  $8,000
  • Tuition award: Up to 3 credits of 999
  • Term of award: Spring semester 2015
  • No assistantship or outside employment may be held during the award period.
  • Students enrolled in Subsidized Graduate Health Insurance plan will maintain their policy for the duration of the plan year.

Application Procedure

To be considered you MUST submit the following materials via email to Akitta Robertson arober17@gmu.edu by 5:00 PM EST on Friday, November 7, 2014:

  • Abstract – Summary of dissertation research (no more than 1/2 page)
  • Significance of your research to your field of study (no more than 1/2 page)
  • Progress to date and plan for completion within award timetable (no more than 1/2 page)
  • Letter of recommendation from dissertation chair (sent under separate cover)
  • No departmental nomination required!  Simply submit your application and arrange for your letter to arrive by the deadline.
